On December 2, 2016, a fire broke out within the south wall of the maintenance building (old girls shower house) at Camp Beaverfork. Our director, Bro. Brian Kesterson originally detected the fire while inside the building as smoke started coming from the trim work along the inter wall. Once it was detected, attempts were made to extinguish the flames from within the building, however the fire quickly spread throughout the inner south wall. Both Conway FD and Beaverfork FD units responded but the building itself was a totally engulfed upon their arrival.
On December 3, 2016, while cooking for a rental group, Bro Brian noticed the fire had rekindled in the rear block section of the building and was coming through the damaged roof. Wooster FD, Greenbrier FD, and Beaverfork FD responded and spent another 3 ½ hours working to control the blaze.
The maintenance / storage building was a total loss including all the lawn equipment, hand tools, power tools, kitchen goods and other personal items of the Kesterson’s that was stored in the rear section. Cabin G-5 sustain substantial amount of damage to the exterior front along with filling up with smoke. The west side of the current Girl’s shower house also sustained substantial amount of cosmetic damage to the vinyl siding.
Please be in prayer for Bro. Brian and the State Youth Board as the clean up and rebuilding process begins.
